The Purpose of this study is to investigate effect of Low-Volume high intensity interval training on plasma adipokines, metabolic syndrome risk factors an fat oxidation in obese adults and to provide effective basic information about obesity in the field of exercise prescription.

Twenty-seven obese men subjects participated in this study. The subjects were divided into three group: Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT, n=9); moderate intensity continuous training(MICT, n=9); control(CON, n=9).
All subjects were measured body composition, blood test(Leptin, Adiponectin, Triglyceride, Total Cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterol, Glucose), blood pressure test, substrate oxidation test and maximal graded exercise test before the experiment and after six weeks.
Training groups was conducted 6weeks, four times per week, supervised cycling exercise intervention. Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) consisted of three bouts(3min) of cycling at 80~90% HRmax. Moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) performed single bout(45min) cycling at 60~70% HRmax. Control(CON) have not been trained in any way and have been measured at the beginning and end of experiment.

After 6 weeks, Blood leptin concentration have decreased significantly Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group and Moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group. Blood adiponectin concentration have increased significantly Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group and Moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group. There were no significant differences between the groups in the two adipokines.

The waist circumference, triglyceride, and blood pressure of metabolic syndrome risk factors were significantly decreased in Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group and moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group. Glucose was significantly decreased in moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group and showed a tendency to decrease in Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group. HDL-Cholesterol level have not changed significantly among three groups.

The fat oxidation showed a tendency to increased in Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group and moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group.

Exercise test were significantly increased in Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) group and moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) group. There were no significant differences between the two groups.

In conclusion, despite conducting low volume, Low-Volume high intensity interval training(LV-HIIT) is efficient training compared to moderate intensity continuous training(MICT) for improving plasma adipokines, metabolic syndrome risk factors.
