This study examines the effects of empathy-based human rights program on the school violence attitude and empathy of high school students. The research problems set for this purpose are as follows.
First, how does a program that enhances empathy based on human rights affect high school students'' attitudes on the school violence?
Second, how does a program that enhances empathy based on human rights affect the empathy ability of high school students?
In order to verify the above hypothesis, students with high aggressiveness among first year students in H-specialized high school in B metropolitan city were selected and allocated to the experiment group and the control group by random allocation, respectively. The school violence attitude and the empathy ability measure were used in the experimental group and the control group, and the t-test was conducted to verify the homogeneity of the two groups, and the covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was conducted to identify differences in post-test scores.
The results of this study are summarized as follows.
First, the program that enhance empathy based on human rights appropriately changed the attitude of high school students on school violence. This program seems to have affected the attitude of the victim and the offender, especially in the school violence attitude.
Second, programs that enhance empathy based on human rights improve the empathy of high school students. It also infiuenced share perspective of cognitive empathy, imagine, empathic interest in emotional empathy, personal suffering which are sub-factor of empathy ability, respectively.
In this study, we found the program that enhance empathy based on human rights was effective in improving the ability of high school students to change their attitudes on school violence and to empathize. In addition, we have shown that the combination of human rights consciousness and cognitive and emotional sympathizers is more effective in enhancing the ability of high school students to empathize in this study. Finally, it is important to confirm that the program that enhance empathy based on human rights is effective in changing perceptions and attitudes on school violence.
Based on the results of this study, we suggested educational implications and suggestions for follow - up research to improve the empathy of high school students.
