The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the career group programs for specialized vocational high school students executed in Korea by utilizing meta-analysis methods. For this purpose, a total of 62 studies from 1987 to February 2016 were selected and analyzed.
Then final analysis was to identify the characteristics of the intruder''s target, depending on the coding standard, coding by applying the formula to the effect size of the intruder from each effect size was calculated 418. In addition, each group was analyzed using the Comprehensive Meta Analysis 3.0 version program to obtain the effect size and homogeneity of variance test analysis.
The results were as follows: First, random-effects model was adopted, 418 effect sizes were calculated, and the average effect size of the programs was 0.944, indicating a level close to a large effect size. Second, the effect sizes of the programs showed a slight and not statistically significant increase according to the publication year. Third, among the groups divided by the grade range, the 2rd grade student group was the most effective as 1.039. Among the groups divided by the sex, female was the highest as 0.971. However, the differences were not statistically significant. As to effect sizes according to a total number of sessions, from 7th to 9th term was the highest as 1.402. As to effect sizes according to number of sessions per week, from twice a week was the highest as 1.024. As to effect sizes according to operating period, under five weeks was the highest 1.157. As to effect sizes according to the number of group members, from 6 to 9 is the highest as 1.791. As to effect sizes according to operating time per session, 60 to 89 minutes the highest as 1.284. As to effect sizes according to a time slot for activity, vacation was the highest as 1.411. And the group conducting needs assessment was higher than not conducting it in the average effect size as whether to conduct needs assessment or not. And the group using reflection journal was higher than not using it in the average effect size as whether to use reflection journal or not. As to the program type, using counseling theories based on career-related contents was the most effective as 1.414. Regarding the effect sizes according to dependent variables, school-related factor was the most effective.
Based on these outcomes, the findings of this study can be used for planning interventions that utilize the career group programs for specialized vocational high school students, and provide implications for developing and implementing counseling interventions.
