This study aims to provide basic data for the preparation of strategies to promote the improvement of the efficiency and quality of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses'' Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) control by understanding their psychological empowerment and awareness and performance of HAI control and investigating the correlations among their psychological empowerment, awareness and performance.
The subjects of this study were 178 nurses working at the ICUs of four hospitals with more than 500 beds, located in D. Metropolitan City, and data were collected using structured questionnaires from June 22 through August 28, 2014. As for research tools, psychological empowerment was measured using the tool for measuring psychological empowerment developed by Spreizer (1996) and adapted by Ku Bon-dong (1999) was used. And awareness and performance regarding HAI control were measured using the tool for measuring awareness and performance of HAI control developed by Kang Mi-kyung (2003) based on the Administrative Guidelines of the Korean Society for Nosocomial Infection Control (2001) and modified and supplemented by Kim Myung-ja (2010). Data were analyzed using SPSS/PC WIN 19.0 Software, and frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were calculated through t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient.
