If examining history of city planning that has been changed over several centuries, it can be seen that the history has been formed by influence of social paradigms. When considering this trend, to apprehend what paradigm of modern society leading the flow of city planning is and to predict what direction the future social paradigm is moved into can be said to be very important assignment.
Today’s urban planning is changed into a bottom-up development way centered on dwellers. As a social paradigm putting stress on quality of living of residents comes to the fore, rather than a development method focused on business feasibility, synthetic alignment concentrated on qualitative growth is intended. Also, as residents themselves being main agents, city restoration that local capacity is strengthened and declined areas are revitalized is being pursued.
It is called as ‘urban regeneration of a style of residents’ own efforts’ or ‘village making of a resident participation style’. Since these projects endow dwellers with responsibility for residents themselves to maintain and control improved environment together with improvement of living environment, the projects have a goal of securing self-sufficiency for residents to run their communities in the long term. For the success of the business, though communications of residents and administration are important, it can be said that relationship between residents is the most important. Through the consecutive relationship, satisfaction of residents increases.
When recent studies are looked into, because they are focused on urban regeneration and cooperative governance as solution devices of conflicts of residents, empirical studies unearthing matters to be laid stress on for the improvement of dwellers’ satisfaction lacked. Therefore, this study intends to verify empirically how much cooperative governance which was formed in the course of the business has an effect on dwellers’ satisfaction, centered on Sajik2-dong, Chungju city where city regeneration of the style of residents’ own efforts is being processed.
As a study process for result extraction, first, using a measurement index of cooperative governance proposed by literature and advanced researches, it was tried to reveal the influence that the governance has on residents’ satisfaction. Especially, using a structural equation model, through a difference among direct and indirect participants of cooperative governance and non-participants, the effect size (d) of cooperative governance and residential satisfaction was verified. Consequentially, change of residential satisfaction in accordance with whether participating in cooperative governance or not was examined.

From the analysis result, it was analyzed that the set hypothetical structural model was proper, and it can be interpreted that cooperative governance influences dwellers’ satisfaction. Specifically, it was analyzed that the governance participation course influences economic and social satisfaction significantly only in direct participants of cooperative governance and operation of residents’ participation programs affects economic satisfaction significantly. Plus, it was found out that direct participants of cooperative governance influenced greatly dwellers’ satisfaction in governance participation courses and operation elements of residents’ participation programs compared with indirect participants of cooperative governance and non-participants.
Through the study, it was proved that efforts to create cooperative participation environment in the course of residents’ participation were necessary. Preparation of professional support system of execution of the urban regeneration project was emphasized. Also, this study has a meaning as the empirical study that analyzed cooperative governance formed in the revitalization business of declined houses has an effect on dwellers’ satisfaction. But, since there is a difficulty of generalization, future studies on characteristics and alternatives by type will be needed based on areas where diverse revitalization projects are being conducted.
