Woman Leadership for Effective Ministry
and the Series Preaching for its Development

A healthy church is the focus of interest in all churches and all Christians, and is one of the issues in this epoch of ours. All the leaderships in ministry built up as a shepherd of the church of body in Jesus Christ have struggled by themselves to establish a healthy church community. Currently Korean churches consist of a majority of women Christians, nevertheless women leaderships are seen only a few churches with carrying out the ministry in part. Korean Church has no women leadership. Accordingly most of women Christians in the church are in a difficult situation because they cannot find any woman leadership giving counsel to them about their spiritual, mental and personal problems.

In most churches, men leaderships in their thirties or forties are the driving force carrying out the ministry. It is difficult for a woman Christian to ask a man leadership for advice against her personal problems as the man leadership is seemed not to have profound experience and knowledge in life. For this reason, women Christians inquire here and there for seeking help outside of churches.

However, if well-trained women leadership is ready for carry out the ministry in the church community, it will be very easy for a woman Christian to receive help from the women leadership. If women leadership takes care of women Christians, it will be much better than that of men leadership because women Christians can feel the sense of kinship from women leadership. Women leadership understands women Christians more broadly and deeply compared to the case of men leadership and furthermore it is easy for them to meet women Christians. Because they are homogeneous, there is no worry to be reluctant.

In the situation women Christians hold a majority of the members of churches, if women leadership in churches cares for women Christians holistically with feminine characteristics, it will be very helpful for a church to grow a healthy one.

If so, why do churches avoid employing women leadership? This study focuses on analyzing the causes why women leadership is absent in the church and finding the solutions thereof. This study finds the follows: first, the necessity to understand correctly the nature of women based on the Bible; second, the suffering life of women under the influence of Korean traditional culture; third, the fact that the qualifications should be fostered to build up women leadership; fourth, the importance to recover the uniqueness of women; and finally, the fact that women leaderships should give benefits to church community by remedying their shortcomings.


This study develops the model of women leadership necessary to women leaders. The models are transformational leadership, servant leadership, and leadership diamond model. Furthermore this study suggests the women leadership consisting of womankind’s five characteristics enabling women leaders to carry out effective ministry in church. Five elements of women leadership this study proposes are as followings:
The first is the leadership of emotion and sympathy. Women have the excellent ability of emotion and sympathy endowed by God. Soft leadership of emotion and sympathy of women leaders can open other’s mind easily. It will help to have human relationships in the community and solve the conflicts in church.
The second is the leadership of delicateness. Women have delicate feelings and characteristics. The delicate leadership of women will be helpful in accomplishing the neglected and isolated ministry.
The third is the leadership of maternal broad-mindedness. This will be the leadership of building up the community through their endurance, thoughtfulness and tolerance to care for the church members.
The fourth is the leadership of building relationships. The leadership of building relationships of women leaders tends to have a mind to understand and consider others, and keep up their relationships. This leadership of building relationships will perform a great role to strengthen the solidarity of members and build the relationship of pastoral ministry.
The fifth is the leadership of practicing their love for others. We have to see people from God''s perspective to love others like ourselves. We can be a doer of a true love when we practice God''s love. Women leaders who practice a true love are interested in all people. They will make a beautiful church community by practicing a true love of others.
Five elements of women leadership will be able to make church ministry very effective. And they will be beneficial to building up healthy churches.

Five elements of this study are discovered in the women leaders in the Bible.
What is more, a series of five sermons for improving women leadership are posted in this study to keep up women leadership in the church community. These sermons are written to deliver the necessity of women leaderships, bring to the light the women leaderships in church community, and revitalize and keep on developing women leadership.

This study focuses on building up women leaderships in church community to establish a healthy church. Especially, by applying the unique characteristics of women leaderships to pastoral ministry, it is written to build up a healthy church and perform an effective ministry. This study is to revitalize women leadership by using women''s characteristics in the situation of lack of women leaderships in Korean churches. Besides, I suggest that a good education and program should be developed to go on enhancing women leaderships
