Libraries, which were built to store books as a medium of knowledge, are recently transforming from simple spaces for reading materials and acquiring knowledge to complex functions of new social functions that gather and connect people. The impact of the physical environment on user experience should be addressed more specifically through research and design, and space planning that considers the interaction between people and the environment is required. People interact with the environment in various ways, such as through learning, communication, resting, and creative activities in addition to simply reading books in public libraries. Such interactions should enrich the space and design the space so that the interaction can occur more smoothly. The purpose of this study is to present a plan for planning the interior space of public libraries centered on the interaction between people and the environment, and through this, users should be able to have a comfortable and productive experience in the library. Accordingly, this study aims to understand the spatial characteristics of public libraries, derive and apply the characteristics of the human interaction concept and expression elements, and promote space composition and design, and it has significance as a guideline for future public library space planning.
