This paper compares and examines the Chinese Resultative Complement Construction that is compatible with the Status Complement Construction, which represents “Meaning of Evaluation Construction”. and reveals difference in Meaning between Constructions based on “Subjectivity”. and examines the Meaning Functions of Resultative Complement Construction. The results are as follows.
First, I confirmed that the Resultative Complement Construction served to highlight Subjectivity, and the Status Complement Construction express a more Objectivity Depiction by relatively excluding Subjectivity. In addition, when the Sentence represents the Meaning of Evaluation of the Motion behavior and the Complement forms a Semantic orientation with the Verb, a Compatible relationship between “Resultative Complement Construction” and “Status Complement Construction” was established.
Next, in the Previous Study, Resultative Complement Construction expressed the Meaning of “Emergence of a New Situation,” “Evaluation,” and “depending from the Prediction result” in addition to the result Meaning of the action. In addition, when Adjectives are used as a Resultative Complement, they can be divided into cases that the result Meaning is expressed and cases that the result is not expressed depending on the Character of the Adjective. the former is an Adjective with Positive and Negative Meanings, and in the latter case, “Open grade Adjective” was mainly used as a Complement.
Finally, the Resultative Complement expressed the Behavioral reminder and Cause Explanation, as well as the Meaning Function of Reprimand and Regret. In other words, the Meaning Function of the Behavioral reminder refers to the Function of allowing the other party to Perform some kind of Action with a Specific Intention. and the Meaning Function of the Cause Explanation refers to the causal relationship between the Preceding and following Clauses. The Meaning Function of Reprimand and Regret indicated that the result of the Action was more or less than the Speaker expected, so there was sufficient room for the Speaker to intervene, which could indicate the Meaning of Reprimand or Regret.
