Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a malignant tumor of minor salivary origin that occurs in people in their 50s and 60s, and most commonly occurs in the palate. The lesion grows slowly and, in some cases, its clinical symptoms are unremarkable; therefore, it can be easily overlooked. Complete surgical resection and additional radiation therapy have been reported to improve survival rates. The lesion spreads via perineural invasion, and when distant metastasis occurs, the prognosis is poor. Therefore, the 5-year survival rate was relatively high, whereas the 10-year survival rate was low. In this study, we report that a lesion that existed in the oral cavity for a long time and was initially diagnosed as a benign lesion clinically, but was finally diagnosed as adenoid cystic carcinoma by histopathological examination. The purpose is to emphasize the importance of early detection in local or lower-level hospitals by discussing diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis through literature review.
