Purpose: This historical review aims to explore the origins, identity, and historical development of early nursing education from 1907 to 1945 at Kyungpook National University. Methods: The study complied with research ethics guidelines by basing its findings on documented facts and conducting on-site visits to archival institutions such as the National Archives of Korea and the University of Tokyo Library in Japan. Results: In the historical review of early nursing education from 1907 to 1945, the Daegu Dongin Hospital opened in February 1907 and began offering nursing and midwifery training in September of the same year. Following the proclamation of the ‘Charity Hospital Regulation’ in August 1909, the Daegu Charity Hospital officially opened as a government-operated institution on September 7, 1910. This transition marked the continuation of the nursing training from the Daegu Dongin Hospital to the government-operated Daegu Charity Hospital under the regulations established in 1913, 1925, 1939, nursing education continued to advance both in quantity and quality. These developments sustained nursing education through to 1945. Conclusion: The founding year of Kyungpook National University is believed to have been 1910, the year of the establishment of the Daegu Charity Hospital. The early nursing education from 1910 to 1945 played a pioneering role and continued to systematically develop modern nursing, contributing greatly to today’s nursing education.
