The Jeju 4.3 photographic record taken during the US army military government in Korea not only has evidential value for investigating past, but is also a material that can discuss history in the context of ideology, power, and memory. How these photographic records are accepted in research on the Jeju 4.3 Incident is an issue directly related to the investigation of the truth. This study analyzes Jeju 4.3 photographic records taken during the US army military government in Korea and explores the process of accepting photographic records as data for past research. This study was conducted focusing on photographs discovered and collected by the Jeju 4.3 Peace Foundation, and comparative analysis was conducted of publications, reports, and online data. Let's look at what these photographs indicate, whether there are any omitted or distorted facts, and how to judge their reliability as historical material. Ultimately, we aim to expand the discussion on the investigation of the Jeju 4.3 incident by exploring the differences in the visual characteristics and perspectives of the subjects that appeared in the production and reception of the Jeju 4.3 photographic record.
