A liquid hydrogen storage system for mobility is currently under development in Korea. The storage system has an internal heat exchanger in the tank and a fuel supply system with a pressure build-up flow. Since the liquid hydrogen storage system has more system components and the fuel flow is complicated, the control of the system is much more difficult than that of a conventional compressed gaseous hydrogen storage system. Therefore, dynamic simulation is required to understand the characteristics due to the change of operating conditions. In this study, a dynamic simulation model has been developed for a liquid hydrogen storage system including a fuel supply system, and the transient behaviours due to the change of operating conditions have been studied. The effect of the variation of the mass flow rate of fuel, the coolant temperature, and the mass flow rate of coolant have been investigated. It was found that the effect of the mass flow rate of fuel is the most critical factor affecting the pressure of the tank. The simulation results will be compared with the experiments. It is expected that this study will be able to supply important information in developing an optimal pressure control method of the liquid hydrogen storage system.
