The purpose of this study is to compare the dynamic response and injury criteria patterns that occur when the occupant seating relax posture collide with the near-side of a vehicle using human body models(GHBM M50/F05) and side impact dummy(WorldSID-50M, SID2-s). As the era of autonomous driving approaches, passengers are expected to be seated in a variety of ways. However, according to a study conducted under the support of the NHTSA in 2008, the result of backtracking on NASS/CDS accident statistics showed that when a similar accident occurs and the occupants are in a relaxed posture, the resulting death rate increases by 1.77 times. To prevent injuries to passengers in relaxed posture, NCAPs in various countries are trying to conduct virtual evaluations using HBM in addition to existing evaluation methods.􀀅Male and female dummies/human body models were selected to predict injuries of passengers in a relaxed posture. The vehicle was selected as an SUV, and two barriers(AE-MDB/Pole) were selected. The seating conditions were selected as three types: Erect/Recline/Full reclined by changing the seatback angle. The results of the study showed that in the case of a Pole impact, passengers in the recline posture experienced hard contact with both the dummy and HBM. Due to the difference in biofidelity between the dummy and HBM, there was a significant difference in chest deflection, and dynamic response. Based on this, future restraint device development should utilize the HBM.
