The purpose of the study is to examine the patterns of acquiring morphological-syntactic characteristics, the meanings of ‘-어 버리다’, ‘-고 말 다’, ‘-어 놓다’, ‘-어 두다’, and the usage of these auxiliary verb constructions by Mongolian Korean learners.
The results show that, first, the average percentage of correct answers for acquiring the characteristics of morphological-syntactic of the perfect-aspect auxiliary verb construction ‘-어 버리다’, ‘-고 말다’, ‘-어 놓다’, ‘-어 두다’ was 55.89%, while the average percentage for acquiring the meaning was 40%. This suggests that learners find meaning more difficult than morphological-syntactic characteristics. Second, the lowest percentage of correct answers was shown in terms of the combination with the prefinal ending ‘-시’, the connective ending ‘-면서’, ‘-다가 말다’, and the constraint on subject in relation to the morphological-syntactic characteristics. Third, when looking at the pattern of acquiring meaning, Mongolian learners had the lowest percentage of correct answers in the construction ‘-어 두다’ at 30.6%. Finally, when examining the usage patterns of perfect-aspect auxiliary verb constructions, it was found that learners generally do not use them effectively.
