This study aims to explore the cognitive load factors in management simulation games and their impact on cognitive absorption, highlighting the fusion of cognitive psychology and game design, with the goal of helping players continuously experience the sense of achievement and enjoyment of control brought by cognitive challenges during gameplay. The study seeks to reveal the significance of cognitive load factors in game design and provide theoretical support for the development of management simulation games. The participants in the study are players with experience in simulation management mobile games. The study is divided into three phases: the first experiment uses exploratory factor analysis to extract the key factors of cognitive load; the second experiment examines the reliability of these factors and analyzes their interrelationships; the third experiment further investigates the impact of each cognitive load factor on cognitive absorption.
The results show that the cognitive load in management simulation games can be categorized into four core dimensions: task complexity, multitasking coordination, information processing load, and interface and design interference. The analysis indicates that these dimensions are both independent and exhibit certain interactions. Among them, task complexity is the dominant factor of cognitive load, while information processing load and interface design show a synergistic effect in influencing cognitive load. Moreover, while multitasking coordination, information processing load, and interface and design interference do not have a significant direct impact on cognitive absorption, they show a significant correlation with cognitive absorption and may indirectly influence it through other mediating variables. This finding will be further explored in subsequent studies.
