Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the validity of applying the group effectiveness scale developed by Short and Sullivan (2005) and simplified by Fransen (2014) to team sports players in secondary schools in Korea.
Methods: A group efficacy scale questionnaire was used for 354 people (male: 254, female: 100) using the intentional sampling method for secondary school team sports athletes living in G Metropolitan City and J Province. The collected data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, intergroup t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and regression analysis using SPSS27.0 and AMOS27.0.
Results: As a result of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, the group efficacy scale of the 7-point Likert-type scale of 6 single-factor questions showed good factor load, general index, and detailed index, and the level of reliability was also high, so the validity and reliability of the group efficacy scale used in this study were secured. Based on this, the difference in group efficacy between gender, school, and sports of team sports athletes and the effect of leadership, commitment, and teamwork, which are related variables, on group efficacy were analyzed, but there was no difference in group efficacy of secondary school athletes between gender and school, but the group efficacy of soccer, volleyball, and basketball players was higher than that of tennis and swimmers. In the relationship analysis with related variables, it was found that the leader's leadership, athletes' athletic commitment, and teamwork had a positive effect on group efficacy.
Conclusion: The group effectiveness of secondary school athletes validated in this study laid the foundation for use in related research on team sports. Therefore, it is judged that the effect will be recognized when research on the relationship with various variables such as the relationship with team performance is conducted through many studies in the future.
