This study was conducted on 200 elementary school children located in C and J, Gyeongnam, who responded that they are currently engaged in sports activities such as after-school activities. Sports activities were students who engaged in a variety of sports activities such as taekwondo, kendo, and badminton which were carried out after-school activities, and sports club activities at school. The questionnaire was filled out using the self-assessment method using the convenient sampling method. A total of 200 people were collected, but data on a total of 190 people were used, excluding 10 sheets such as no filling out. In this study, the analysis was performed using PROCESS Macro Model 4 and AMOS 18.0 produced by Hayes (2013) using IBM SPSS 26. The contents of the research analysis are as follows. First, the sub-factors of basic psychological variables (relationship, competence, autonomy) in children's sports activities had a significant influence on hopeful thinking. Second, hopeful thinking had a positive effect on the continuation of the exercise in children's participation in sports. Third, as a result of examining the mediating effect of hopeful thinking in the effect of basic psychological needs (relationship, competence, autonomy) on exercise continuity, it was found that basic psychological needs had a positive effect on exercise continuity performance by hopeful thinking, a mediating variable.
