While many people were victimized in the resistance movement of the indigenous of French colonial Algeria, members of the Algerian Communist Party were particularly hard hit. The Algerian Communist Party was dissolved and banned three times: in 1939, 1955, and shortly after Algerian independence in 1962. Banned by the Vichy, Fourth Republic, and National Liberation Front (FLN) governments, members of the Algerian Communist Party were disenfranchised human beings, subject to arrest, imprisonment, and torture under fascist, colonial, and nationalist regimes alike. The history of the Algerian Communist Party, which fought for the liberation of Algeria before and before anyone else, has long been forgotten on both sides of the Mediterranean. In France, the memory of the Algerian War has been ignored, and in post-independence Algeria, the nationalist regime that seized power repressed the Algerian Communist Party.
The algérianization of the communist movement was implemented through the Algerian Communist Party. While Socialist Party(SFIO) before 1914 and the Algerian Federation of the French Communist Party after 1920 recruited only European settlers, the Algerian Communist Party, with its anti-colonial and internationalist ethos, recruited and organized indigenous members and worked to promote them to positions of responsibility with leadership duties. The significance of their passion and efforts to overcome the racism underlying the colonial order is undeniable.
