This study aims to analyze the performance of the reverse Brayton cycle heat pump for high-temperature heat supply in industrial processes. The reverse Brayton cycle, using a gas-state refrigerant is inversely proportional to the pressure and volume at the same temperature. So it makes system getting bulk when the operating pressure decreases. In order to compare of performance according to cycle configuration, we designed a simple cycle and a cascade cycle which can operate at a lower pressure ratio than a simple cycle. In the case of the cascade cycle, the pressure ratios of the Top and the Bottom cycle are dependent on each other. When operating conditions are changed, such as temperature change of waste heat supply or industrial process heat supply, the system can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the operating pressure ratio of the Bottom cycle, enabling flexible operation than the simple cycles. And cascade cycle was operated at a lower pressure ratio than the simple cycle. As a result the cascade cycle showed lower pressure drop than the simple cycle. As the pressure drop decreases, the compressor requires less power to achieve the same heat supply conditions. Under the same heat supply conditions, the ideal cascade cycle without considering the pressure drop in the inter-stage heat exchanger showed a higher COP than the simple cycle. But for the actual cycle with pressure drop, the simple cycle showed a higher COP than the cascade cycle. This study provides insight into the performance of heat pump cycles for high temperature industrial heat supply and the impact of operating pressure on overall system performance.
