Rooted in his Irish heritage and growing up surrounded by legend and folklore, Yeats employs metamorphosis as a symbolic escape, exploring themes of eternal love amidst life’s transience in his works such as “The White Birds,” “Leda and the Swan,” “Sailing to Byzantium,” “The Old Age of Queen Maeve,” and The Shadowy Waters. This paper aims to explore Yeats’s use of metamorphosis, unraveling his intent and its significance in confronting the ephemeral nature of existence.
