The JingxuantangsongqianjiaLianzhushige (精選唐宋千家聯珠詩格 : Selected Poetic Forms from the
Tang and Song Dynasties : A Collection from a Thousand Families; Lianzhushige hereafter), a collection of selected poetic forms from the Yuan Dynasty, was widely trans- mitted to Korea and Japan, where it was extensively utilized. Although the exact time of its in- troduction to Korea is uncertain, a manuscript from the Nanbokucho (南北朝) period remains in Japan. In Korea, a royal order prompted the translation and annotation of this book, lead- ing to the production of a commentary version (註解本) under the supervision of Seo Geo-jeong. As this annotated version gained circulation, the original gradually faded from view, but it was also transmitted to Japan, where it became an important edition. Various literary materials, printing blocks, and collection catalogs provide detailed insights into the annotation process and the ways in which this book was utilized. Furthermore, Lianzhushige served as a model text (模本) in both Korea and Japan, inspiring a variety of derivative works. In Korea, these included Ryu Hu-ryeong's TangsongLianzhushige Fulv (唐宋聯珠詩格附錄 : Supplement to the Poetic Forms from the Tang and Song Dynasties : A Collection from a Thousand Families) and DaedongLianzhushige (大東聯珠詩格 : Great Eastern Collection of Poetic Forms from a Thousand Families), and Gwon Geun's Shirinyaogaoji (詩人要考集 : Essential Studies of Poets). In Japan, notable annotated editions (校註本) include Okubo Shibutsu's JianzhutangsongLianzhushige (箋注唐宋聯珠詩格 : Annotated Collection of Poetic Forms from the Tang and Song Dynasties : A Collection from a Thousand Families) and Nukina Kaiku's ZengzhuLianzhushige (增注聯珠詩格 : Expanded Annotations on the Poetic Forms from a Thousand Families), as well as Abe Rikisai's LianzhushigeMeibutsuzuko (聯珠詩格名物図考 : Illustrated Examination of Famous Works in the Collection of Poetic Forms from a Thousand Families) and Tojo Kindai's XutangsongLianzhushige (続唐宋聯珠詩格 : Sequel to the Poetic Forms from the Tang and Song Dynasties : A Collection from a Thousand Families). These works illustrate how Lianzhushige, a Chinese anthology of poetry, was received and creatively adapted in Korea and Japan. Additionally, Lianzhushige can be approached as an example of medieval universality, shared across the region, while also considering the unique and innovative transformations it underwent in response to the cultural con- texts of each country. In this regard, the study of Lianzhushige offers opportunities to expand the scope of research on the circulation of books and cultural exchange in East Asia, as well as in comparative literature.
