There are many approaches to express the expecataion category in Korean. In addition to common adverbs and word endings, some idiomatic expressions can also express Korean expectation semantics. Among them, ‘-gi maryonida’ is a typical idiomatic expression of positive expectation property in Korean. On the basis of examining the expression form of the conventional type ‘-gi maryonida’, this paper tries to predict the expectation semantic type of ‘-gi maryonida’ from the perspective of Korean and Chinese correspondence: high probability occurrence type, inevitable occurrence type, concomitant occurrence type, affirmative occurrence type, etc. It is also found that it has pragmatic functions such as confirmation response, admonition, explanation of reasons and suggestion of results in specific context. Based on the understanding of the specific expression of ‘-gi maryonida’, this paper hopes to provide reference to the ontology of foreign language learners through the correspondence between Korean and Chinese.
