This study is about intellectual property of Hanbok skirts when Korean culture is popular worldwide. Although the number of times Koreans wear Hanbok has decreased significantly, they wear Hanbok for important personal events such as 100th day party or 60th birthday party. As the living environment in Korea has changed, Koreans have preferred to rent Hanbok rather than having it tailored, and the industrial structure of hanbok has also changed. In addition, as the number of foreigners visiting Korea has increased, the number of opportunities to wear Hanbok has increased. And, as it has become popular for young Koreans to take commemorative photos wearing Hanbok, many rental shops has also increased significantly, and as Hanbok production has become industrialized, understanding intellectual property rights is important. This study will examine patents and utility model rights centered on Hanbok skirts.The results of this study showed that there were more utility models than patents for Hanbok skirts. Most of the patents and utility models were related to the waist of Hanbok skirts. The administrative status showed the most expired intellectual property rights, which seems to be due to the fact that manufacturers of Hanbok skirts were mainly single-person and failed to industrialize. On the other hand, the application year of intellectual property rights showed that the more recent it was, the more it was filed, which seems to be related to the trend of Korean culture. The most common patents and utility models for Hanbok skirts were related to the function of the skirt. This study examined patents and utility models for Hanbok skirts, but other items related to Hanbok should also actively develop intellectual property rights at a time when Hanbok is becoming globalized. Such intellectual property can enhance the aesthetic development of Hanbok and the efficiency of the manufacturing industry.
