This study examines the impact of housing size difference, life-course events, and residential satisfaction on the intention to move. It addresses endogeneity concerns by jointly estimating tenure choice and intention to move. Homeowners show a positive link between desired-to-actual housing size ratio (RSD) and the intention to move, reflecting a ratchet effect. Renters, influenced by factors like household characteristics, display insignificant coefficients for RSD and RSD2, facing challenges adjusting size due to budget constraints. Life-cycle variables, like age and household size, significantly impact residential mobility, with elderly homeowners less likely to move. Marital status and being single influence both groups' intention to move. Housing type matters, as living in apartments decreases mobility for both groups, while studio renters express a higher intention to move for better housing. Ground-level houses are less likely to prompt relocation, while older houses are associated with increased mobility intention. The study uses a joint probability model, revealing a significant negative impact on homeowners, indicating a lower likelihood of moving intention. In contrast, renters show a positive effect, suggesting a higher probability of intending to move compared to randomly chosen residents with similar characteristics.
