This study’s purpose is to investigate North Korean folk beliefs in the primary North Korean literature of Joseon Nyeoseong (Joseon Women). To this end, first, articles re-lated to folk beliefs in Joseon Nyeoseong were analyzed and distinguished according to periods; second, based on the analysis, the reasons for the inevitable persistence of folk beliefs among North Korean residents were identified and changes in folk beliefs over time were traced. The analysis results of Joseon Nyeoseong show that North Korean folk beliefs can be characterized as follows. First, superstitious acts persist and are in-creasing in frequency. Second, despite their increase, superstitious acts remain in the form of incantation because the incidence of shamanic rituals has shrunk. Third, the scope of anti-superstition initiatives has expanded and intensified from persuasion and education to legal regulation. Fourth, folk beliefs not only remain ingrained in the reli-gious practices of the North Korean people but have also moved from informal spaces and been incorporated into everyday lifestyle through cultural transfer.
