The purpose of this study was to confirm whether the family Strength impact factor is affected by the cohabitation state of couples, which is a recently changing form of family that has become socially important. The data from the 3rd family survey conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality in 2015 was utilized for this study. A total of 2,516 people were analyzed in this study. Of these, 2,360 were cohabitation couples and 156 were separated. The research method first confirmed the demographic and sociological characteristics on the couples of both states. Then, correlation analysis was conducted to find relationship between each factors. Furthermore, a step-by-step regression analysis was conducted to confirm the impact factors of family health in the cohabitating and separated state group. This research’s key analytic results were as follows. First, the socio-demographic factors affecting family health on couples of cohabitation state were identified as gender, education level, age, economic status and income. For marital related variables, communication satisfaction and marital relationship satisfaction were identified to have a positive effect. For marital conflict variables, marital conflicts, housework and parenting conflicts were identified to have a negative effect. However, children-related variables were identified to have no effect. Second, the socio-demographic factors affecting the family health of separated couples were gender, age, economic status, employment status and dual-income status. For marital related variables, marital relationship satisfaction was identified to have a positive effect. On the other hand, marital conflict variables and children-related variables had no effect to the family health of the separated couples. This research has significance in that it confirms that the cohabitation state of a couple differentiates factors that affects family health and to provide basis information in development of programs aiming to enhance couple relationship status and family health in the future.
