This study attempted to explore through the writings of freshmen in university writing classes and also tried to find a process of mourning and healing for each one’s inner wounds and depression. This study examined whether this process could psychological trauma and improve writing skills. Writing involves expressing, feeling, recognizing, and arguing with oneself. This class, in particular, instructed students to creatively express pain by removing painful and difficult experiences, by what they had piled up in their minds, and by transforming the pain into a new perspective through a university writing class; in recent times, the psychological difficulties of university freshmen have been increasing compared to the past. This study tried to examine how students heal their experiences of hurt and depression through university liberal arts writing classes and how their writing skills can be improved through such. university writing classes, this study tried to analyze whether “therapeutic writing” provides healing effects for each student. Thus, by observing themselves intensively to confirm their identity and by solving various problems in their surrounding environment, students were able to improve their problem solving skills. Based on their own experiences, they were able to their feelings, record them in the form of a complete story, take a third party perspective, and express their own voice and issues. This process the mental pain of university freshmen, provided them with opportunities for growth, and improved their ability to produce good writing.
