The purpose of this study was to prepare a plan for the amendment of the legal system to compensate for the deficiencies of the current International Athletic Games Support Act. To this end, the Act on Support for International Athletic Games was first analyzed, problems were identified. Simultaneously, the existing regulations and guidelines related to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy and Finance were reviewed. In this study, the scope of application of International Athlete Competition Support Act was defined as a competition with a total project cost of more than 1 billion won, which was set by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. In addition, in order to ensure the objectivity and procedural legitimacy of the procedures for attracting and approving local governments, additional sanctions were imposed in addition to the establishment of an enforcement ordinance and cancellation of approval, as well as the evaluation method for objective evaluation of the competition hosting plan, which is a major issue in the revision of the Act on the hosting and approval of international athletic competitions. Even after the decision to host an international competition, the government prepared a plan to establish a new limit on the total project cost so as to curb waste of budget and lax preparation for the competition, such as expanding the total project cost and demanding an increase in national finance. We hope to push for legislation of the revision proposed in this study in the future so that the international competition to be held in Korea can be transformed into a major event contributing to national development.
