In this report, we focus on the high voter turnout and active citizen and students movements in South Korea and propose that the Korean model be used as a reference for the development of democracy in Japan.
This study examines the historical differences between Korea, which experienced a civic revolution-type democratization process, and Japan, which experienced a revolutionary political modernization ‘from above’. Next, a comparison will be made between the South Korean general election which the reporter observed in 2024, and the forthcoming Japanese lower house election, to highlight the significance of learning about Korean political participation for Japanese youth.
