As a new concept of artistic creation, Chinese contemporary jewellery stresses the distinction from traditional jewellery and the expression of personal spiritual connotations. However, despite the growing number of authors in the field of Chinese contemporary jewellery, theoretical research in the field is relatively underdeveloped. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to make up for the deficiency of theoretical research in this field by studying the different characteristics of Chinese contemporary jewelry in different periods. The research methodology adopts literature reference and case study analysis. The background of the formation of Chinese contemporary jewellery and the basis of its classification are analysed, and then its development is divided into three representative periods. It is found that the first stage of Chinese contemporary jewelry is influenced by social factors, which plays a role in the transition period. Jewelry and handicrafts co-exist in this period, focusing mainly on traditional design elements, but innovative ideas mainly remain in the conceptual stage, but have not been applied in practice. In the second stage, the representative of Chinese early contemporary jewelry writers introduced the new concept of jewelry design abroad. The appearance of representative writers such as Teng Fei marks a new stage in the development of contemporary art jewelry, breaking the shackles of traditional Chinese jewelry thought and integrating individual creation experience and expression. Under the background of the integration of Chinese and Western culture in the third stage, the new generation jewelry writers received a new education, quick thinking, full of expression desire, that is, the development period. They have the flexibility to create more innovative contemporary jewellery, emphasizing the diversity of individuality. In conclusion, this study can be considered as a chronological study of the development of contemporary jewelry in China. However, it is a limitation that it was limited to the limited literature and could not be analyzed in more depth.
