The purpose of this study is to visualize the scope of people’s perceived color attributes and ranges of target color adjectives ‘Bulkda, Nureuda and Pureuda’ combined with the derivative affixes, by corresponding their dictionary meanings to the Munsell colors in conformity with the systematic color names. Furthermore, this study compared the changes of brightness and chroma due to the derivative affixes and phonetic substitutions. For this purpose, the key Munsell coordinate values of the color nouns such as ‘Red, Yellow and Blue’ were corresponded to the ''specification according to three attributes and systematic color names'' in the Korean Standard Colors. Then, the color samples indicating the systematic color names were extracted for a questionnaire survey. The subjects were encouraged to see the color adjectives and then, indicate their perceived colors, and thereupon, the color attributes of the color adjectives were visualized by means of the color scope distribution diagram. As a result of analyzing the color changes caused by the derivative affixes and phonetic replacements, it was found that the subjects perceived that the brightness and chroma of the affix (Si-) were lower than the affix (Sae-). They perceived that in ‘Nureuda’, (-Kke/Kkiri) were brighter and less chromatic, while in ‘Pureuda’, the brightness and chroma were lower. (Gemeo/Gama-Re), (-Chikchik) and (-TtungTtung) were perceived less bright and chromatic. They perceived that (-Kkrum) was middle brightness and middle chroma. In contrast, (-Sure/Surum/Ut/Um) were perceived diversely. While (-Re) was perceived as brighter and more chromatic in ‘Bulkda’, it was perceived brighter and less chromatic like (-Mure) in ‘Pureuda’. Moreover, in the phonetic substitution, the fortis were less bright and more chromatic than basic sound, while the negative vowels were less bright and chromatic than the positive vowels. All in all, the results of this study suggests the vocabularies of indicating a same color are very diverse. Lastly, it is hoped that this study would be useful to the ordinary people as well as the foreign people learning Korean.
