Among Korean movies that has love theme between a man and a woman, there are three movies that have foreign or multi-identity diaspora heroin. Those are <Failan>, <Late Autumn> remake by Tae Yong Kim, and <Decision to Leave>. <Failan>’s heroin, Failan is a Chinese who is not able to hear or speak Korean. She marries the protagonist, Kang Jae fictitiously for status purpose, but she never meets him due to her sudden death of illness. Throughout the movie, her character gets no chance to show identity crisis or diaspora’s traits. <Late Autumn>’s heroin, Anna is a Chinese American who lives in Seattle. The story all happens in Seattle so she’s not able to show traits of a foreign who reside in Korea. <Decision to Leave>’s heroin, Seorae is a Chinese who reside in Korea, but her mother-side grandfather is a war hero who helped to get an independence from Japan. She marries Korean men and works in Korea. Her diaspora traits show vividly in the movie. Seorae is unprecedented character in Korean movies and it would be valuable to view her in diaspora’s perspective comparing her behavioral aspects with ordinary diaspora characteristic to see what matches and what not. Doing so, we will be able to see the character construction and whether or not it helped the storytelling. It would also be quite valuable to see why the auteur of this movie made elements that don’t match. That is the purpose of this research.
