Haengjeon was used for convenience when performing activities and walking. They were worn as pants from below the knees to the shin and were fixed with a string at the top. There is little research on haengjeon, so in-depth research is needed. Based on literary and painting data, this study investigated the name and examples of haengjeon worn during the Joseon Dynasty. It also examined and analyzed excavated relics to examine changes in shape and gender by period. The research results are as follows. First, the names of haengjeon were diverse, such as neukbaek(勒帛), haengdeung(行縢), and haengjeon(行纏) in Chinese characters. In old literature and personal writings of the 19th century, they were also called haengdeung(행등), haengdyeon(행뎐), and neukbaek(늑백). Second, haengjeon was worn by people of all status classes, including the emperor, prince, crown prince, nobleman, bureaucrats, eunuch, people, and women. Third, the form of haengjeon can be divided into two types: the swallow"s beak-type, which is named jebihaengjeon, and the cylindrical type, which is named tonghaengjeon. In the 16th to early 17th centuries, there were 22 cases of 26 pieces of jebihaengjeon, including nine cases of 12 pieces. In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, there were five cases of six pieces of jebihaengjeon. In the 18th century, there were five cases of six pieces, including one jebihaengjeon and four tonghaengjeon. In the 19th century, there were three cases of three pieces of tonghaengjeon. Fourth, there were 16 cases and 20 pieces of haengjeon from male tombs. From the late 16th century to the early 18th century, and from the mid-18th century, the swallow"s beak-type of jebihaengjeon was worn. From the mid-18th century, the cylindrical type of tonghaengjeon was worn. Six pieces of haengjeon were excavated from female tombs from the 16th to early 17th centuries. All of them were the swallow"s beak-type of jebihaengjeon.
