This study examined how the K-pop films from Korea and Japan featuring youth stars such as Yukio Hashi, Kazuo Funaki, and Teruhiko Saigo, and K-pop films featuring Nam Jin and Na Hoon-A, portray the themes of farewell and love. Consequently, the production of Japanese pop films began in the early 1960s, while Korean pop films began to appear in the mid-1960s, a little later than in Japan. In addition, in the case of Japan’s top three singers of the music industry, each often appears alone in the movie, but in Korea, Nam Jin and Na Hoon-ah appeared together. Specifically, K-pop films during the 1960s were sometimes undervalued in terms of singers’ acting skills, but film companies tried to make films by actively utilizing the already established singer characters and images. For example, in the case of Korea, the image of the youth stars Nam Jin and Na Hoon-A of the time was employed to depict confrontations and conflicts between urban and rural, modern and traditional; simultaneously, in terms of themes, it overlaps Japan’s “Sun,” who experienced high economic growth a step faster than Korea, which showed structural contradictions that inevitably arise in the process of Korea’s industrialization and modernization.
