Etude, the core of the Stanislavski system, has been studied by many researchers until now and is being applied in the field. Despite the importance and usefulness of the etude, the research conducted so far mainly uses the long-established integrated training model, such as the silent (restricted) etude, the improvised text etude, and the role-building etude. Considering that the Stanislavski system and etude are methodologies with a scientific character in which structure and steps are presented, exploratory research is needed to understand the etude and develop a new training model. To this end, first, after analyzing the preceding studies related to etude, the trends of the studies were confirmed, secondly, the curriculum of the theater school based on the Stanislavsky system in Russia was analyzed, and thirdly, not only the majors as well as the non-majors in the educational field could access it. The necessary terms and requirements for program development were identified. As a result, the basic training concepts of acting education as well as etude were replaced with the basic elements of etude, and the goal was established to program them as an integrated process between the elements.
Therefore, this study re-categorizes the basic elements of the presented attitude and attempts to connect these concepts with the theory of counseling psychology. Among the basic elements of the 8 etudes, concentration and relaxation were categorized as consciousness, imagination, relationship, and self-esteem as a given situation, and adaptation, evaluation, and exchange as improvisations. In addition, it was possible to confirm the similarity with the concepts of counseling psychology that consciousnessization is awareness, given situation is belief, and improvisation is emotion and behavior. In particular, the fact that the consciousness of concentration and relaxation has a lasting effect so that other elements of the attitude can be developed and maintained again confirms the importance of concentration and relaxation in the etude. However, the order of the integration process of these elements is not absolute and can be applied in various ways. Also, these factors can be presented as specific concepts for evaluating the integration process of etude. In other words, when evaluating actors who perform etude, it is important that the basic elements of etude can be used as a unified concept.
This study emphasizes once again that it is not intended to oversimplify etude or suggest a fixed training method by diagramming the concept of etude and training method among elements. As the purpose of this study, the intention to present various approaches to etude was the most important, and the important goal was to have a wide discussion on the main concepts and principles through the similarity between acting art and counseling psychology. Lastly, I hope that various discussions related to the thesis of this study will take place, and that the purpose and methodology of the acting arts will be a little more generalized, so that not only professional artists but also the general public can access the acting arts.
