This study explores the mediating role of peer attachment between children’s group bullying and self-esteem. A sample of 413 children who experienced group bullying was drawn from the 11th wave (2018) of “The Panel Study on Korean Children” conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE). Data analysis was performed using Cronbach’α, t-test, Pearson’s correlation and Regression analysis using SPSS 23.0 and Process macro model 4. The findings are as follows: Firstly, gender differences were observed in children’s experiences of group bullying and peer attachment, but no significant difference was found in self-esteem. Secondly, children’s experience of group bullying exhibited negative correlations with both self-esteem and peer attachment, while self-esteem and peer attachment showed a positive correlation. Thirdly, complete mediating effects of peer attachment were confirmed in the relationship between children’s experience of group bullying and self-esteem. This implies that the impact of group bullying on self-esteem is indirect and mediated by peer attachment. The study highlights the importance of facilitating positive peer relationships for children who have experienced group bullying and suggests the development of diverse programs to enhance the self-esteem of victimized children during their recovery process.
