A Study on the Impact of Parental Migration for Work on theEducational Expectations of Left-behind Children in Rural ChinaNing He & Yiyu ZhanAbstract: This study aims to analyze the impact of whether or not rural parents in China live with their children when they go to work in cities on the education of children left behind, and to call on all walks of life to pay attention to the issue. This study used the questionnaire data from CFPS2016, which was analyzed by the software Stata using the regression analysis method and linear probability model. This study was conducted by analyzing the educational expectations of rural parents and left-behind children. This study found that mothers play a crucial role in the education of left-behind children. Specifically, the study found that rural children living only with their mothers have higher educational expectations than those living with both parents, while children living only with their fathers have lower educational expectations. Furthermore, children whose parents are both absent have relatively lower educational expectations. Only living with mothers can effectively raise the educational expectations of rural left-behind children, and financial support from the government also helps to raise their educational expectations.Key Words: Parental Migration for Work, Family Income, Rural Areas, Left-behind Children, Educational Expectations
