This paper is to see relationship dynamics like resistance and transference that can be seen between the spiritual directee and God as well as between the spiritual directee and the spiritual director in the context of spiritual direction and these dynamics can obscure the purpose of spiritual direction. This paper analyzed the spiritual direction relationships from a psychodynamic perspective. Methodologically, a literature review was used. This paper elucidates spiritual direction resistance can be seen as fundamental resistance to God since original sin is ingrained in the very core of human existence. This resistance was divided into two categories: resistance to God and resistance to a spiritual director and spiritual direction. Transference may be seen as the manifestation of people's innate, original longing for God. The transference to God and the transference to a spiritual director were covered. In conclusion, this paper provides new light on the implications for how the spiritual director who accompanies the Holy Spirit and the spiritual directee should be present via the dynamics of relationships in spiritual direction.
