The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of changes in the value of the local extinction risk index on the increase or decrease in the number of restaurants in the region. The local extinction risk index is a value derived by the local population characteristics. Therefore, the opening and closing of restaurants that are greatly affected by population changes are inevitably highly related to the risk index of local extinction. As a result of the analysis, the risk index of local extinction showed no correlation with the change in the number of restaurants at the Si and Gun level. However, in the Eup, Myeon, and Dong units, the number of restaurants and the risk index of local extinction showed a correlation. In particular, the change in the number of restaurants showed the greatest downturn when the risk of local extinction was shifted from the “stage of extinction” to the “stage of entry into the risk of extinction.” As a result, it was confirmed that the change in the risk index of local extinction reflecting the characteristics of the population was affecting the opening and closing of restaurants in the region. Therefore, the analysis related to local extinction should be conducted at the level of Eup, Myeon, and Dong, which is the lower unit of the Si and Gun. In addition, budget execution and policy establishment for population reduction should be considered at the level of Eup, Myeon, and Dong.
