The purpose of this research is to examine the development of the Jeon Joseon Folk Entertainment Festival held in 1938 as part of the 『Chosun Ilbo』 cultural project. The purpose of the Jeon Joseon Folk Entertainment Contest was to create an opportunity to re-examine Joseon’s unique ‘local art,’ which was declining at the end of the Japanese colonial period. This project, which lasted for ten days, had contests for folk arts, pansori, classical dance, and paldo women's singing. Each contest was organized as a solo performance by genre and presented at Bumingwan and temporary theaters. Famous artists and art organizations of the time oversaw the performances, guaranteeing not just artistic quality but also popularity. Additionally, 『Chosun Ilbo』’s admission fee reduction benefits and various promotional strategies were successful in attracting audiences. As a result, the Jeon Joseon Folk Entertainment Festival was a big success, and talks on ‘local art’ continued later in numerous sectors. The first is cultural film production of ‘Korean folklore’ the second is the revitalization of folklore studies, and the third is performance activities to revitalize Korean ‘folk performing arts’ and preservation societies to preserve ‘folk performing arts’ was established. The Jeon Joseon Folk Entertainment Festival Awards stimulated the national character by emphasizing the existence of ‘local performing arts’ anew, amidst a sense of crisis that traditions had been cut off with the end of Japanese colonial rule. In expansion, it is noteworthy that 'local art' of different classes was held as the primary large-scale excitement challenge within the private segment, which it was carried out as a social venture of 『Chosun Ilbo』, an ethnographic magazine of the time, and stirred intrigued in 'local art' to the open.
