The purpose of this thesis is to understand Yoshiko Saito’s message about the War from her literature on children. She repatriated to Japan from Qingtao, came to Colonial Joseon in 1923 for her father’s job, and repatriated again in 1945. While experiencing Japan’s defeat in World WarⅡ, she reflected on her life as a colonist in Joseon and regretted her ignorance about Colonial Joseon. She wrote works about the war for children who have not experienced it. She wrote The Disappearing Flag, which featured a Japanese boy as the main character and sanctioned the case of the marathon runner Sohn Ki-jeong’s Japanese flag erasure. Japanese and Korean craftsmen work together at a newspaper company. Their conflict begins with the national issue of Japan and Joseon. However, it expands the problem of class within them rather than a relationship of domination/subjugation. Through this, Saito Yoshiko is seeking reconciliation and solidarity between Colonial Joseon and Japan. However, the process leading to the reconciliation is too light and generous. It can be said that the purpose of adapting to the characteristics of children’s literature that ends with a happy ending was emphasized, resulting in an unreasonable ending that easily reconciles Joseon children and Japanese children.
