Honey and propolis is a representative bee products, and mankind has been using it to treat wounds healing since ancient times. Recently, there has been increased interest in the immune response of the human body with regard to the CoVID-19 Pandemic, which has led to increased interest in the immune effects of honey and propolis. We investigated that antioxidant-related biological functionality of various honey mixed with propolis using the Raw264.7 macrophage. We used 500 g of 3-types of honey (Sugar beat, acacia and chestnut) mixed with 50 mL of propolis each. LD50 value of each honey mixed with propolis was determined 20 μL /mL by MTT cytotoxicity assay. Nitric oxide (NO) assay showed that chestnut honey enhanced NO production and propolis reduced NO production. NO production level of chestnut honey was about 50% compared to LPS. Also, chestnut honey increased expression level of COX-2 and NF-κB p50 as inflammation marker protein and propolis was decreased. NRF-2 as signaling molecule of HO-1 and antioxidant protein HO-1 was only increased in acacia honey+propolis and chestnut honey+propolis mixture group. Sugar beat honey+propolis was did not. This result means 3-points. First, biological synergistic effects of honey mixed propolis. Secondary, difference of immune-related function of honey type. Finally, significance of natural honey compared to artificial honey.
