The growth of the senior population and the context of an aging society have triggered a continuous increase in the living needs of the silver. Walking assistive furniture, as a key product to meet the walking and daily needs of the senior, is of great research significance in improving the quality of life of the senior. However, the existing assistive furniture has certain limitations in design and function, which leads to rejection by the senior. Therefore, to improve this situation, this study proposes a new concept of home mobility furniture. It meets the practical needs of the senior and improves their acceptance and comfort in using assistive devices.
Firstly, the behavior and needs of the senior were analyzed, focusing on the walking characteristics and daily life needs. Investigating the use of senior assistive furniture, walking ability assessment, and demand analysis provides a theoretical basis for the functional design of furniture.
Subsequently, using the user observation method, this study is based on the user research theory. It uses the household research method to practically address the needs of senior users. Investigations were conducted on the household structure, living space, behavioral patterns, and furniture use of the sample families, and comprehensive analyses of various types of furniture in the living space were conducted. Through behavioral coding and Noldus quantitative analysis, user research data is synthesized to gain an in-depth understanding of older people"s walking characteristics and daily life needs.
Twelve problematic scenarios were refined by focusing on eating, mobility outside, and recreation through a user-centered design approach to understand older people"s behaviors and needs better. These were categorized into three main scenarios: eating, mobility, and entertainment, and prototypes were designed to incorporate the scenario analysis to optimize the product experience. In addition, by combining the design principles of wooden material and lightweight structure, the furniture walker is closer to the users" needs and improves the quality of life of the silver.
Finally, 3D rendering diagrams are shown, and the structure is rendered and simulated to combine the furniture product design with practical applications to provide a comfortable and safe home life experience for the senior. The results of this study are expected to provide new ideas and references for the design and innovation of furniture products for silver and contribute to the development of the furniture industry in the future aging society.
