Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop pictograms for Geup-rgade Poomsae and propose a method for recording Poomsae movements.
Method: To apply the symbolization system to Taekwondo, a Delphi surevy was conducted involving experts from the education, industry, and competition sectors,a s well as design convenience. The expert group consisted of 14 Taekwondo educators with master’s or docotral degrees, as well as Taekwondo field leaders with over 10 years of experience. Prior to the sruvey, questions were formulated based on a literature review and professional meetings, covering design and education, industry, and competition aspects. The survey included a total of 12 questions, with 8 focusing on design and 4 on education, industry, and competition. The data obtained from the survey was used toim prove the Taekwondo symbolization system, with a minimum Content Validity Ratio (CVR) value of 0.571 for the 14 expert group.
Results: Pictograms for Geup-grade Poomsae, consisting of 8 types of poomsae from Taegeuk 1 to Taegeuk 8, were developed. These pictograms encompass a total of 167 movements. Pictograms were successfully developed for Taegeuk 2 to Taegeuk 8, while Taegeku 1, previously addressed in other research, was not included in this study.
Conclusion: Taekwondo symbolization offers a method to record diverse and intricate movements, and this study provides insights into the future direction of recodring Taekwondo movements. The developed pictograms effectively symbolize all Geup-grade Poomsae movements and contribute to visualizing the evolution of Poomsae symbols.
