Although it is important for growing adolescents to be aware of the correct face washing methods and to practice them according to their respective skin types in terms of beauty health, factors affecting this are little known. The present study examined how high school girls’ skin types and awareness of face washing were associated with their face washing practices, after adjusting for the girls’ sociodemographic characteristics and facial cleanser purchasing behavior. The data of this study were collected by conducting surveys on a total of 300 students in Gyeonggi Province. As for the dependent variable, the respondents’ scores on face washing practices were standardized through ESS transformation, and hierarchical regression analyses was used for the statistical analyses. The respondents engaged in good face washing practices when they were enrolled in the general academic high school (β=0.201), received more allowances (β=0.120), or had severer skin trouble (β=0.241). On the contrary, they engaged in poor face washing practices when they perceived their own skin as dry (β=-0.142). When only students who did not put on cosmetics when they went out were analyzed, they engaged in good face washing practices when they were enrolled in the general academic high school (β=0.444), received more allowances (β=0.246), or had severer skin trouble (β=0.287). The present study revealed that, for high school girls’ correct face washing practices, guidance to allow them to learn face washing methods suited to their respective skin types is more important than education on face washing methods.
