The final objective of this research is to provide practical information to the homeowners who want to install a photovoltaic panel system. For this aim, using field survey on six single-family detached houses installed photovoltaic panel system, we investigated socio-demographic background, specifications of house building, installation process and specifications of photovoltaic panel system, use situation of home appliances, user satisfaction and improvement opinion, and carried out economic analysis of photovoltaic panel system by calculating installation cost and reduction in electric bill. It has found that the subjects had installed photovoltaic panel systems to reduce energy cost by hiring an installation company through some acquaintance's recommendation. After installation, most of the subjects were able to utilize more home appliances at lower energy costs, and to control more comfortable indoor environment, thus were satisfied with the system installation including especially electric bill reduction. Five houses installed the photovoltaic panel system with the support fund from the national and city government programs. Based on the actual payment for installation and electric bill reduction, the average payback period of the five houses is calculated as 7.6 years. Because the life span of the photovoltaic panel system is about 20~30 years, the photovoltaic panel system installation has proved economically advantageous. This study showed that photovoltaic panel system is highly recommendable in terms of economic benefit and user satisfaction, and also users advised caution in choosing installation companies is most important, due to the differences in installation cost, equipment function, and service between the companies.for building management in the near future.
