The purpose of this study is to analyze class activities that define the needs of converged education in order to solve for a ‘Wicked Problem,’ to anticipate the students and researchers to guide resolution courses for the evolution in the world of COVID-19. With the pandemic , the academics need to utilize more external and fusion perspectives in order to find an adaptable solution to current and trending issues for the students. The study was conducted on students with multiple disciplines in order to investigate interdepartmental effects of the course. The design of a converged class was to combine a basic liberal arts writing class with ecology studies including field studies. A total of 191 students participated during four semesters from 2019 to 2020. The composition of the students by discipline was as follows: Engineering 23.6%, Liberal Arts 8.4%, Arts 8.4%, Education 4.6%, Economics 25.7% and Science 29.3%. The class was designed as a “flipped” learning. First, to have collaboration and co-governance in order to produce and utilize new ideas via multilayered perspectives. Second, to understand information and knowledge from various media in order to examine issues, and to foster the ability to utilize in a problem solving situation. Initially, the class needed to achieve calibration of varing disciplines between literature and sciences into a converged perspective of ecology humanities first. Then, it was essential to find a reason and resolution of drastic changes of the environment with a liberal arts perspective to understand global challenges in ecology. Lastly, the development of comprehension ability on converged ideas between humanities and science was aimed with interdisciplinary communication based on basic science knowledge of the nature, life of species along with humankind. The results are summarized as follows: The students were able to understand different perspectives of different discipline backgrounds. 1.The understanding cultivated new ideas coming from interdisciplinary collaborations with flipped learning design. 2. The class developed an ability to foster an idea of resolution for current challenges with multilayered perspectives. However, more diversified disciplines were not cumulated for the class with limited number of students, and therefore the effect of converged education was limited with disciplines. The empirical projects were not sufficient as for a converged education. The “flipped” learning session was to be designed by students themselves from the start. In conclusion, the study suggests that the university needs to increase the number of classes for the students to introduce an idea of resolution of current Wicked Problem with inter-disciplinary collaboration from the basic liberal arts courses. Futhermore the empirical projects need to be a major activity of the class in order to have the students be more proactive designing the class resulting in a positive effect for the “flipped”learning.
