This paper examines the existing studies and translations related to early Buddhism, and presents the contents and the structure of a textbook of early Buddhism. Since the 1970s, Korean Buddhist scholars and early Buddhist translators and researchers have accumulated research on early Buddhism and translation of early Buddhist texts. It can be said that the main research and translation achievements on early Buddhism were the translation of sutta and vinaya. Based on the early Buddhist texts in the Korean translation and studies on early Buddhism, this study composes textbooks on early Buddhism that are helpful for academic and traditional practice and enlightenment in early Buddhism. The text book on Early Buddhism will be composed of a system of belief, understanding, practice, and realization, which are traditional Buddhist understanding and practice structures. In order to understand the beliefs of early Buddhism, the life of the Buddha and three treasures are explained. And the system of doctrine and practice is composed centering on the Four Noble Truth. In particular, it will be a theoretical and practical teaching material for early Buddhism that can be helpful to modern people by adding the modern meaning of teaching to lay people and contemporary meaning of early Buddhist meditation.
