This study focused on researching the historical value of the Records of the official writer office collected by the National Palace Museum of Korea. The Records of the official writer office is the document created containing records for 6 years from 1877 to 1882 in the late Joseon Dy nasty. It can be an important source in a situation where research on the official writer in Joseon is not active due to a lack of historical data. In the first half of the study, after comprehensively reviewing the organization and operation of the official writer office in the Joseon Dynasty, the bibliographic characteristics of records were examined. In the second half, the historical value of registration was reviewed. During the Joseon Dynasty, there is a high possibility that the official writer office was estab lished and operated as a subordinate government office of the Office of Diplomatic Correspon dence in 16th century and it is highly likely that the number of employees of the official writer office was fixed at 40 in the 17th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the official writers included high-ranking officials, but from the 18th century, it seems that low-ranking officials were mostly in charge of the official writers as their main occupation. The Records of the official writer office contains 592 articles. Unlike other governmental records, there are many articles written in the first person in the Records of the official writer office, and the authors are likely to have been mid-level executives in the organization. There are two historical values identified in the records. The first is the organization and organi zational culture of the official writer office. The second is the writing activity of the official writ er. In the former, first, the organization of the official writer, second, the process of entering the office, third, from the beginning to the death of the official, fourth, the organizational culture of the office, which was intertwined with relatives, were reviewed. In the latter, first, the activities of writing diplomatic documents of the official writer, and second, the activities of writing royal records were examined. In this paper, due to the limitations of translation, the entire records could not be completely structured and related historical materials could not be closely linked. However, it was possible to fully convey the meaning of, and to provide new clues for future research of the official writer by reviewing the overall organization of the official writer, which has been partially studied, and effectively provide an introduction to the value of the Records of the official writer office col lected by the National Palace Museum of Korea.
