This study aims on analyzing the trends of mental health studies of North Korean refugees. The issues of mental health and the lives in South Korea came to an attention as number of incoming North Korean refugees increases in early 2000s. Media revealed that North Korean refugees have been exposed to various threats and trauma while they went through exile and adjustment to living in South. Therefore, many studies were conducted in various subject areas, although they were done in rather a sporadic way. And not many trend-analyses were performed. Thus, this study focused on the trend of mental health studies in contents, research methods, study subjects, academic fields, and period of study conducted. Based on the findings, the study recommended the clinical and policy implications. In order to collect data for analysis, DB of 1997 through 2016 with key words of mental health and related words. 142 articles were selected. The results revealed that 1997 seemed to be the first year that the mental health related articles appeared; Psychology, Social Work, Politics, and Psychiatry were the major fields with more than 10 articles appeared; about 71% articles were on adults with a poverty of elderly and child; descriptive study were most dominant; and the symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD were dominant with about 43% of articles. It was good to see some articles on positive quality of life, recovery or growth after PTSD. Based on the results, clinical and policy implications were recommended for mental health among North Koreans in the transitional period of unification.
